Take a Class at Central Market Cooking School!

Whether you’re a dedicated “foodie” or just want to know more about cooking, the Central Market cooking school is for you! Offering several classes each week, the CM Cooking School chefs and guest chefs prepare a meal before your very eyes, which you then get to enjoy. We’ve enjoyed classes on “Beer, Butter, and Bacon,” pairing Shiner beers with various dishes, and “Vegetarian Indian.”

Past guest chefs have included Martin Yan, Alton Brown, and Mario Batali. (Note that “celebrity chef” classes are more expensive than those taught by the top-notch CM cooking staff.) Chef Jason Dady (The Lodge at Castle Hills, Tre Trattoria, Bin 555, and Two Bros. BBQ) and William “Goro” Pitchford (Godai Sushi) also teach frequently.

In addition to demonstrations, the school offers “hands-on” classes (such as tamale making), a “Learn at Lunch” series, and classes on wine pairings and knife skills. Their occasional “chef’s table” classes (“Treat that special someone to the most romantic secret in town, the Central Market Cooking School transformed into a fine dining destination” ) sell out almost immediately after schedule publication, so don’t dawdle. They also offer a kids summer class; if you’re interested, I’d sign up soon.

Prices vary per class. See their online brochure for a current schedule and pricing. The summer catalog just came out. We’re eyeing classes by Chef Jason, tapas, and “Tuscan Grill.”
