Enjoy the View at Wildseed Farms

Located just east of Fredericksburg on Hwy 290, Wildseed Farms boasts over 200 acres of wildflowers. According to their website, it’s the largest working wildflower farm in the nation. The best time to visit is spring and summer, when many varieties are in bloom, but don’t avoid in the fall/winter. The grounds are always beautifully decorated, and the nursery well-stocked. And it’s the best place to purchase your own wildflower seeds for planting in your yard.

In addition to a wide variety of plants, flowers, and herbs, the Market Center features a large selection of gifts, food, ladies apparel, and jewelry. A personal favorite: a large collection of bluebonnet-themed merchandise. We walked out this weekend with a colorful frog planter made in Mexico.

You can pick your own bouquet, visit the Butterfly Haus (extra fee applies), or enjoy a beverage in the Brewbonnet Biergarten. They host Texas wine tastings on the weekend in the Biergarten.

They also host a variety of events throughout the year. Upcoming:

  • Gourmet Chili Pepper and Salsa Festival, July 24-26

  • Fall Planting Days, September 11-13

  • Monarch Butterfly Celebration, October 17-18

They’re open seven days a week from 9:30 am-6:00 pm (summer hours).
